MEET YOUR HOST — RICHARD HUNTLEY
I’ve been an entrepreneur since leaving college, working across different industries and always believing that the best businesses are built around people, relationships, and good service.
When I created Jardín al Bosque nearly two years ago, hospitality was a completely new adventure for me. What started as an idea for a unique glamping experience in San Juan has since become something much more personal than I ever expected.
I’ve had the opportunity to welcome guests from Puerto Rico and around the world, celebrate special moments with them, host events, support local artists and musicians, and continuously transform this property into the experience you see today.
I’m still very much a hands-on host. You may see me working somewhere around the property, preparing for an event, improving one of our spaces—or simply stopping by to say hello. I enjoy meeting our guests, hearing their stories, sharing recommendations, and making sure that when something needs attention, we take care of it.
Jardín al Bosque is constantly evolving, and that is part of what I love about it. There is always another idea, another improvement, and another reason to create something special.
Nearly two years into this journey, one thing hasn't changed: I want every guest who walks through our gates to feel welcomed and leave with a great memory.

OUR ROOTS — A VISION THAT BEGAN IN 1957
The story of Jardín al Bosque began long before there were glamping tents beneath the trees.
In 1957, my grandfather, Josiah Dale Huntley, purchased this property with a vision of creating a Parador—a place of lodging that would embody the character, culture, and warm hospitality of Puerto Rico.
That dream would take generations to unfold.
Following my grandfather's passing in 1979, my father, Harold “Renny” Huntley, took responsibility for the property. During the 1980s, it became both a family residence and a place of business, beginning another chapter in its history.
In 2005, I purchased the property from my father, becoming the third generation of our family to care for this land. For years, we lived here, enjoyed its gardens, and gradually began sharing the property with others as a venue for celebrations and gatherings.
Over time, something became increasingly clear: people didn't simply want to visit Jardín al Bosque—they wanted to stay.
That demand inspired us to take a completely new direction and create a glamping experience in the heart of San Juan.
What began with a few tents has grown into Jardín al Bosque, a place where guests can stay surrounded by nature, gather for special occasions, experience music and wellness, and discover an unexpected side of the city.
And somewhere along the way, I realized we had come remarkably close to completing a circle that began almost 70 years ago.
My grandfather purchased this land with the dream of welcoming travelers. Three generations later, we're finally doing just that.
The property has changed. The concept has evolved. But the spirit behind it remains remarkably similar:
A place rooted in Puerto Rico, surrounded by nature, where people can gather, stay, and feel genuinely welcomed.
Perhaps my grandfather's Parador simply took a little longer than expected.

Historic Images of Original Vision for 1890 Guaracanal St.
Josiah Dale Huntley
Son of Homer P Huntley and third generation contractor that came to Puerto Rico in 1957 when my father was just 9 years old. He fell in love with Puerto Rico and decided to stay. Besides expanding his contractor business he also looked for ways to invest and expand. This is when 1890 Guaracanal Street was bought.
"The Huntley Parador"
JDH, prepared a set of plans that designed a three story building with typical exterior walkways, arched doors and windows, among other 1960's architecture.
Inspirations
JDH had a vision and knew that 1890 Guaracanal was an exclusive property. Its surroundings : nature , its location: centric and the property: spacious. Maybe a "Parador" cannot be built, but being able to see his plans inspired us to take the next available option.
What Happened?
The building was never built and in 2003, 1890 Guaracanal, became part of the New Millennium Forest, also known as San Juan Ecological Corridor. Now as part of a natural reserve we were able to build a low impact Bed and Breakfast Glamping Site, bringing the vision to life.
